Troubleshooting ASUS PCE-AC68's Failure to Detect 5GHz Network

If you're an avid user of the ASUS PCE-AC68 router, you might have encountered a frustrating issue where your 5GHz network suddenly disappears. This problem has been reported by several users, particularly since build 24865M was released. If you're experiencing this issue, you're not alone.

I've struggled with this same problem and after conducting extensive research, I'd like to share my findings in hopes of helping others who may be facing the same challenge. To begin with, it's essential to note that some users have reported being able to see their 5GHz networks consistently, while others experience the issue as described.

My personal experience began when I upgraded to build 24865M, and suddenly, my 5GHz network vanished from sight. After tracing the issue back to this specific build, I was determined to find a solution. One of the first things I tried was disabling WPA2 for the 2.4GHz band, which surprisingly made both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks reappear.

However, when I removed WPA2 from the 5GHz network, it still failed to display. This led me to investigate further, only to discover that the 5GHz band would disappear entirely if I attempted to secure the network using the standard settings.

In an effort to better understand this issue, I conducted a client-side scan on my PCE-AC68 router and discovered that both networks (one on the 2.4GHz band and one on the 5GHz band) were being broadcast and could be connected to. The networks in question are named 'ddwrt1' and 'ddwrt2'.

Upon further investigation, I found that after clearing NVRAM and resetting the router to its default settings (which include two unsecured networks), I was able to see both networks once again.

Some users have reported experiencing this issue with newer builds, such as Kong 25100M or Brainslayer R25544. While my findings may not provide a definitive solution for everyone, I hope that sharing my experiences can help others who are struggling with the same problem.
